Making Friends on Air

अलसस्य कुतो विद्या, अविद्यस्य कुतो धनम् । अधनस्य कुतो मित्रम्, अमित्रस्य कुतः सुखम् ।।

Above shloka means

No effort then ‘No knowledge’ then ‘No money’ then ‘No friend’ then ‘No joy’

Simply put “No friend, No Joy”.

Life has been so nice since 2012, after receiving an amateur radio license. As I write this blog, this world has approximately 8 Billion people. Just imagine how many friends you can make :-)

But I am interested in finding like minded people, mainly on radio. Though I have best friends in friends list, but somehow I do not feel good about social media friendships. At the beginning it was an uphill battle to find people with similar interests. But later everything was a cake walk.

I look not for a contact just to log but to make a friend. I have many QSO [contacts] with wonderful souls around the globe in about a decade ham radio journey.

These friendships have led to help, information, knowledge, recreation, learning, fun and much more. It is a transformative and wonderful experience friends with so much knowledge, good heart and great mind.

I have friends of all race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or borders.

Veteran hams talk to you so respectfully, they listen to you, they understand the need. They will make themselves available whenever you knock on their door. It makes you feel blessed.

If you are in a good friend circle, you will get a sense of purpose, pleasure, and cheerfulness. Listening and talking to friends reduces stress to a large extent.

There is so much space to be a radio nomad. This is the main reason for this hobby to still be alive. Ham radio discussions have room for everyone, every mindset, of-course with the exception of a few moot points.

Just wanted to share a few of experiences……

Hope our paths cross on air one day!!
